Carrier Setup Guide

Introduction

This guide explains how to identify and provide specific details about the carriers with which you do business.

Basic data

In this guide you will learn how to set up the following data.

  • Transport companies
  • Transport services

Transport companies

Setting up transport companies, or carriers, is not mandatory. It is only needed if you want carrier information to appear on printed reports or documents from orders or shipments, such as manifests, delivery documents and arrival documents.

Note Owner information can include identification of several owner-level default settings, including transport companies. If your configuration requires assigning a default transport company to owners, then after completing the transport company procedure, return to the procedure for adding owners in the System Setup Guide and add the transport company. 

Add a transport company

  1. On the menu, expand Basic Data > Names, and then double-click Transport Company.
  2. On the Transport Company window, in the toolbar, click add. The Add Transport Company dialog box appears.

  3. Enter the following information.
Field Description Required
Transport Company Code  Unique system code that identifies a transport company (carrier).  Yes 
Transport Company Desc  Simple statement that describes the transport company. For example, if the transport company code is ATC, the description may be Acme Transport Company.  Yes 
Contact Person  Full name of the person who is the main contact.  No 
Address Line 1―4 Postal address that can be configured to print on internal or external documents. Typically address line 4 could be used for the city or community, if in printed documents it appears next to the postal code.  No 
Postal Code  Postal code for the address. Format can be customized based your country’s postal code format.  No 
Telephone Number  Contact phone number. Format as necessary with country calling codes and area codes. Example: x-xxx-xxx-xxxx  No 
Fax Number Phone number to which fax messages can be sent. Include country calling codes or area codes and use formatting as necessary. Example: xxx-xxx-xxxx  No 
Email Address  Address to which email messages can be sent, such as name@company.com.  No 
Country Code  Unique system code that identifies a country. Iptor WM1 uses ISO standard codes by default. However, these values can be changed. For example, they can be mapped to the codes for any host system.  Yes 
Language Code Unique system code that identifies a language. Iptor WM1 uses ISO standard codes by default. However, these values can be changed. For example, they can be mapped to the codes for any host system. If a language is not specified, then the company language code is used by default.

In this usage, it is the language in which this transport company’s labels and external documents print.

Name Cat 1―6 Name used to group information for reporting purposes. As an example, you might set up name categories if you have multiple divisions for which you generate separate reports, such as pharmaceutical and automotive. No
Certificated Value that indicates if the transport company is ISO certified. The following values are supported.
  • IS - ISO Certificated
  • NC - Not Certificated
  • UN - Unknown

Shipping Weight Check

Value that specifies if shipping weight checks must be performed for this transport company for inclusion on the shipping bill. The following values are supported.

  • O – Optional
  • M – Mandatory

EAN Address Code Unique system code that uniquely identifies the address. Can be used for EDI transactions. No
Transport Company Status When selected, indicates that the transport company is active. No
Layout Type Code Unique system code that identifies a layout type. The layout type can be used to assign specific layouts of printing documents that are defined in the printing type. The layout type can be controlled via business partner address, transport company, wave template, picklist template, outbound template, replenishment template and yard template. It can also be used from the counting template. In this usage, it is the transactions that are created for this transport company. No

Transport services

Identifying the services that each transport company provides is an optional step. This information is not used by the system, but can be used in reports or in report designs.

Add a transport service

  1. On the menu, expand Basic Data > Names, and then double-click Transport Company.
  2. On the Transport Company window, right-click the transport company for which you want to add a service, and then click Transport Service.
  3. In the Transport Service grid view toolbar, click add. The Add Transport Service dialog box appears.

  4. Enter the following information.
Field Description Required
Transport Company Code  Unique system code that identifies a transport company (carrier). In this usage, it defaults to the transport company that you selected. Display only
Service Code  Unique system code that identifies a transport service.  Yes
Service Desc  Simple statement that defines the transport service.   No
Service Active  When selected, indicates that the transport service is active.  No
